A Busy Day at the Homestead

It's been a busy bee today!
Me and my daughter have had the house to ourselves today we have busied ourselves doing lots of things.
It actually looks like spring might be making an appearance now here in Wales although not all the snow has melted away. I have dried washing on the line outside, enjoyed some sunshine in the garden and been out without a coat on! which was lovely.

So we made the most of the sunshine and planted some seeds peas, beans, sunflowers, tomatoes, squashes, gourdes, sweet peas and kale.
All of which came back inside after the being planted to germinate on sunny warm window sills.
While my daughter made an igloo with some left over snow for her doll I cleared some leaves and uncovered some lovely new shoots of growth in the flower beds, I also surveyed the damage to the guttering after the heavy snow fall (some will need replacing and putting back up) oh dear!
I decided I could use a new storage box for my crocheting bits and pieces. So I thrifted this old shoe box and used some Cath Kidston wallpaper I got from the spring sale.
After some adjusting and getting gluey fingers I ended up with this......
Used up the off cuts and cut out flowers for the lid
I used some contrasting buttons to pick out the flowers (an excuse to play with my glue gun)
I was pleased with the outcome and can't wait to fill it up, which wont take long!
I reckoned it was a good way to recycle what would usually be thrown away.....the hoarder in me doesn't like to throw things away!
xx

    1. Thank you. I don't see why not....my brother and I as children used to wrap shoe boxes in Christmas paper and put presents in for operation Christmas child charity. They seemed to work well :)

  5. Found your blog through Google+ and just wanted to say it's fab! I love the shoebox idea - I always end up leaving my sewing/crafting bits all around the house. :)

  6. Thank you Claire. So sweet of you to say. I'm always leaving my things around too, so the box has come in handy and was thrifty too. Thank you for following :)

  7. I see you like seeds so you must get seed catalogs in the mail. Well, I got the idea last year to decoupage some of the prettiest pictures in the seed catalog onto an oval, lidded box I bought for pennies at a yard sale. I'm so pleased with it, and what a great way to recycle those catalogs. You could also do this with empty seed packets among other things. I do like your use of wall paper, too. Seems like I have some lying around here somewhere...
