Nerves and New Arrivals

Hello bloggy friends, and new followers.
Welcome and thank you so much for joining me.
Happy September.
Hope you are all well and wonderful?
It's been a busy time here, my daughter returned to school yesterday for her first day of juniors. It was a big change for her but I think she has enjoyed herself, especially catching up with her friends.
Here is our new little friend Wicket, my daughter's first pet. When I was a child I was always encouraged to keep pets.
I think it's good for children to have something to care for and gives them a great sense of responsibility. Also, keeping pets from such a young age has given me a life-long love of animals that I hope my daughter will inherit too.

I've been busy sorting through bags and bags of knitting needles and pairing them up. On Saturday they will go on sale for fellow knitters at the craft sale.

I treated myself to this little tin, originally for record needles but now a home for pins.
I have quite a collection of vintage tins and will have to show them to you one of these days...

Getting ready for next year, I bought my garden a present of some new bulbs.
I will plant them for much needed early colour in early spring.

This little beauty looks up at me while I'm washing up and makes me smile.

My wool stash had a tiny clear out today - the wool ends I picked out will go to the craft sale.

Our tea last night, requested by my daughter. Simple pasta with roasted red pepper sauce and our courgettes from the garden.

My daughter and I have been harvesting sunflower seeds.

So neat in their little honeycomb home.

Plenty of lovely seeds for the birds.

Lovely Chrissie mentioned in her last comment to me that she would like to see some of my craft sale wears, so here they are.

I've been busy pricing and arranging.
I will take photos on Saturday of my stall for you all to see.

I found pricing quite difficult... I really couldn't decide what they were worth.

So school runs begin and my big weekend is approaching. I am quite nervous to be honest, it's the first time I've put myself out there for opinions and critique.
So bloggy friends wish me luck.
Thank you so much for your lovely comments on the last post.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Sushine and Bank Holidays

Hello to you.
It's been glorious here the sun has been shining and I have even managed to get out in a t shirt.
Here in Wales our bank holidays are usually wet and grey.....but not this one sunshine all the way.
We got a lot done in the garden.
A huge orange tulip.
This tulip made me smile and reminded me of a boiled egg!
Beans ready to be planted out runners and French.
Before.....
and after.

The beans should really take off now there in the veg plot.

Now...just got to find a place for all these cheeky seedlings!
The plastic green house above has been fab and saved my window sills this year it was a bargain too.
The light sunny yellow from these primroses has inspired the paint colour for my daughters room, to be painted soon wish me luck!
Hope everyone had a lovely weekend.

A Pretty Vintage Find

Over the last couple of days I've been busy sowing  the rest of my seeds, more sweet peas, beans, courgettes, cosmos and hollyhocks. Keeping my fingers crossed for more sunny weather.
It has got warmer over the last few days here which has lifted my sprits a little, I hope its a sign of things to come we really could do with a decent summer if anything is to grow well.
Every window sill in the house is now full of seed trays and propagators.

I was treated to a "potting shed" sign I haven't got a potting shed yet but I've been promised one this summer my partner is going to design and build it himself.
I popped into town where I indulged in one of my favourite things junk, charity and second hand shop shopping.
I love it, you never know what you might find. I think its great how you can find something that's totally unique to all the mass produced things and it's recycling!
On this occasion I found two lovely bird prints and a very impressive handmade vintage crochet cushion both where absolute bargains the prints being £4.50 for two and the cushion only £1.50 unbelievable value.

The above print is of a fire crest
 and a blue tit
I was really pleased with the vintage cushion its the perfect colours for my bedroom.
I wanted to say that I'd made this but I couldn't do it! I love the muted pinks and greys in the cushion and the intricate crochet.
Maybe one day I'll make something like that!

A Busy Day at the Homestead

It's been a busy bee today!
Me and my daughter have had the house to ourselves today we have busied ourselves doing lots of things.
It actually looks like spring might be making an appearance now here in Wales although not all the snow has melted away. I have dried washing on the line outside, enjoyed some sunshine in the garden and been out without a coat on! which was lovely.

So we made the most of the sunshine and planted some seeds peas, beans, sunflowers, tomatoes, squashes, gourdes, sweet peas and kale.
All of which came back inside after the being planted to germinate on sunny warm window sills.
While my daughter made an igloo with some left over snow for her doll I cleared some leaves and uncovered some lovely new shoots of growth in the flower beds, I also surveyed the damage to the guttering after the heavy snow fall (some will need replacing and putting back up) oh dear!
I decided I could use a new storage box for my crocheting bits and pieces. So I thrifted this old shoe box and used some Cath Kidston wallpaper I got from the spring sale.
After some adjusting and getting gluey fingers I ended up with this......
Used up the off cuts and cut out flowers for the lid
I used some contrasting buttons to pick out the flowers (an excuse to play with my glue gun)
I was pleased with the outcome and can't wait to fill it up, which wont take long!
I reckoned it was a good way to recycle what would usually be thrown away.....the hoarder in me doesn't like to throw things away!
