Time to get organised

Hello to you...
Still working on the cushions -
They are growing slowly.

I've been busy today, getting a bit more organised.
I've always kept my yarn labels.
Having a cuppa and a chat with my Mum she suggested why not stick them in a book then I can flick through with easy access.
Good idea I thought, then took it a bit further and stuck samples of yarn in so I can see the exact colour.
This may not be new to all you organised Annie's.
My yarn was in chaos...I'm never going to be super organised but I'm a step closer.
I find it useful to jot down what yarns I've used and where too.
Excuse the writing.

I just used a cheap note book, bought in a sale last year.

Lots of yarns!

While making the book I realised how much yarn I've got!
You can never have too much though, can you?
Hope everyone is having a lovely week so far?
xx

  1. Well done. I really think about doing mine and then shelve the thought away for another day. It would be a great help I would imagine. While I am writing may I just tell you that every time Joy writes a comment to you it makes me smile. The font for the FB always looks like to me like a PB and I read it as peanut butter. Makes me smile every time. Just a small thing but I love it. Joy lives not too far from me. I was so surprised to discover that. Have a lovely week.

    1. How lovely to hear from you Jen. I'd put the idea off for a while but it has helped save a bit of time.
Oh I do love my comments from Joy they make me smile too, she's always so encouraging, warm and friendly.
Oh lucky you perhaps you could start your own craft club!
Hope you have a lovely week FB ;)

  2. What a great idea. I had never thought of doing that. I save my labels too, but I use totes to store my pattern books and labels.

  3. Love your book, and this is such a great idea too.....it's so difficult trying to remember which yarn is which a few months down the line! and your book looks pretty too :)

  4. This is fantastic. My storage consists of a 3 drawer dresser stuffed to the gills with skeins and several (meaning 9 or 10) canvas bags stuck in various corners of the house. And that's just for my yarn. I have drawing and jewelry making supplies in a 4 drawer dresser along with a stack-able plastic tote full of beads. Too much stuff? Nah! Never!

  7. This is such a great idea, I had never thought about it before! I have only just got myself organised with a little book like yours for all my crochet patterns. I find I have to write them all out in UK terms first before I can start.

  9. Well FB, it's no wonder you haven't yet finished your cushion, you have been very practically busy instead - and what a great idea - and so neatly done. Well done you!
I did keep a check when starting the rainbow blanket by taking a piece of card and sticking on the yarn samples in the order I used them, with the names alongside, but a book like yours is the way to go for already I'm well through the latest blanket and haven't made any record - you see, I've already fallen by the wayside!!! Wink over at A Creative Being has a good idea too where she punches holes in cardboard and attaches the yarns alongside.
Well done FB - you have inspired me again, thank you. Joy xx

    1. Hello Joy.
I can't really take much credit for the book as it was my mum's idea, but I did use the selotape myself!
I like the idea of using cardboard and attaching yarn along side sounds handy indeed. Hope the rainbow blanket is going well and not hurting your eyes too much xx

  13. What a great idea! So easy to reference now. This reminds me of college. I was a fashion major and had 2 courses in textiles. He had created books like this with swatches so we knew what each one was.

  14. Ok that is a lot of yarn! You are very organised. I keep all my yarn in an old suitcase, it's really not very organised at all. I need a notebook like yours. x
