A Busy Day at the Homestead

It's been a busy bee today!
Me and my daughter have had the house to ourselves today we have busied ourselves doing lots of things.
It actually looks like spring might be making an appearance now here in Wales although not all the snow has melted away. I have dried washing on the line outside, enjoyed some sunshine in the garden and been out without a coat on! which was lovely.

So we made the most of the sunshine and planted some seeds peas, beans, sunflowers, tomatoes, squashes, gourdes, sweet peas and kale.
All of which came back inside after the being planted to germinate on sunny warm window sills.
While my daughter made an igloo with some left over snow for her doll I cleared some leaves and uncovered some lovely new shoots of growth in the flower beds, I also surveyed the damage to the guttering after the heavy snow fall (some will need replacing and putting back up) oh dear!
I decided I could use a new storage box for my crocheting bits and pieces. So I thrifted this old shoe box and used some Cath Kidston wallpaper I got from the spring sale.
After some adjusting and getting gluey fingers I ended up with this......
Used up the off cuts and cut out flowers for the lid
I used some contrasting buttons to pick out the flowers (an excuse to play with my glue gun)
I was pleased with the outcome and can't wait to fill it up, which wont take long!
I reckoned it was a good way to recycle what would usually be thrown away.....the hoarder in me doesn't like to throw things away!

From small beginnings.......

So after spending a looonnnggg time hooking my daughters single bed size granny blanket http://forgetmenotsblue.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/all-done-hooray-ive-finally-completed.html I thought I would have a break from granny squares but sat in my favourite crocheting chair last night I found myself reverting back to my beloved granny squares. I've gone for a black edging this time to make the blanket colours more suited to my sitting room.
Not sure if I will used them to make a cushion or go for a big project again and make a blanket.

I will keep you posted on what these lovely squares will be a part of..........

Dollie Cushion

Pretty Round Cushion
I was very tired yesterday evening after having a lovely family day at the zoo  http://forgetmenotsblue.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/yesterday-was-lovely-family-trip-to-zoo.html
But I still managed to create something, sometimes I feel that my day isn't complete without making something. So yesterday I hooked a pretty frilly round cushion in one of my favourite colours.
It's the perfect new addition to my bed.
So here it is it's quite girly and has a perfect vintage look.
I was pleased with the petal like edges and I was glad with the result as it only took me a couple of hours.

I used new fashion wool in colour Glacia I like it because it looks like duck egg blue.
Here it is on my bed with its other cushion friends! I think it looks quite at home there.

Animal spotting

Yesterday was lovely, a family trip to the zoo
I thought I'd share a couple of the zoo visit pictures.
A picture of a beautiful butterfly in the butterfly house.
Chester Zoo has lots of different animals 400 different species. What makes Chester Zoo different is they specialise in conservation and research into endangered species.
This is a picture of a cute baby otter juggling with a pebble.
A cheeky tapir
My personal favourite there something extremely majestic about Sumatran tigers. They truly are beautiful creatures they are critically endangered I think the world would be a sad place without these stunning creatures.

Down at the bottom of the garden

Snail!
I've always loved snails being a keen gardener you'd think it would be the opposite but no!
I have fond memories of collecting snails in the garden as a child studying them drawing them and racing them.
A strange love you may think......but imagine my excitement when I came across a pattern for a crocheted snail.
I love going to my local library I love the smell and the quiet atmosphere and I always come away with arm fulls of books usually craft books and among them this time I had "super-super cute crochet"

Or if your very lucky your local library!
I made the African Land Snail

Here she is Shelly the snail! I know an imaginative name :)
I love this daffodils sold in aid of Marie Claire a lovely mix of Narcissus

Still some snow in the back ground!

She's off!
Would love to hear your comments and maybe hear from fellow snail lovers :)

The Yarn Bombed Vase!

Pretty Vase Cover

I thought the plain glass vase I bought from a local charity shop looked a but dull so I wanted to add some spring colours and get a shot of colour quickly.
I very simply measured the vase and just double crochet a band to which I added buttons and loops to fasten.
I embellished it a little with some pretty pink flowers and leaves I guessed at these as I'm not brilliant at following patterns yet.
This is the back of the band I used some pretty wooden heart buttons just to add some interest to the back.
I used kingfisher blue DK new fashion wool and the flowers where scraps that I picked up in the same charity shop I bought the vase from it was a day of good buys.
Charity shops and second hand shops are among my favourite to shop in as you never know what you might find, I like how you can always find something unique that can make your day without costing the earth.
The title with thanks to Patrice Walker who gave me the idea.
